Nemesis (mythology) : ウィキペディア英語版 | Nemesis (mythology)
In ancient Greek religion, Nemesis (; ), also called Rhamnousia/Rhamnusia ("the goddess of Rhamnous") at her sanctuary at Rhamnous, north of Marathon, was the spirit of divine retribution against those who succumb to hubris (arrogance before the gods). Another name was Adrasteia, meaning "the inescapable".〔Aeschylus, ''Prometheus Bound'' 936; Euripides, ''Rhesus'' 342〕 ==Etymology== The name ''Nemesis'' is related to the Greek word νέμειν ''némein'', meaning "to give what is due",〔http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=nemesis〕 from Proto-Indo-European ''nem-'' "distribute".〔R. S. P. Beekes, ''Etymological Dictionary of Greek'', Brill, 2009, pp. 1005–6.〕
